Detailing

Structural steel detailing is the process of producing detailed shop drawings and erection drawings from structural engineering models. These drawings specify the exact dimensions, connections, bolt patterns, weld symbols, and material grades needed to fabricate and erect each steel member. Fabricators and erectors cannot proceed without approved shop drawings, they are a contractual requirement on virtually all commercial and industrial steel projects.

Turnaround depends on scope. A single-storey portal frame or a small mezzanine typically takes 5–10 business days. A multi-storey structural steel frame of 10,000–50,000 kg usually requires 3–6 weeks. We confirm a schedule in writing before starting every project.

We deliver DWG/PDF shop drawings, DXF erection plans, DSTV/NC cutting files for CNC machines, and IFC models for BIM coordination. Tekla model export (IGES, STEP, or native .db1) is available on request.

We detail to Eurocode 3 (EN 1993), AISC 360, AS 4100, and NZS 3404, depending on the project's location and client requirement. We follow NISD, BCSA, and AISC detailing guides for connection best practice.

We need structural engineer's GA drawings (PDF or DWG), a connection design report or connection schedule, the applicable steel grade and bolt specification, and the project's governing building code. We can often start from IFC or Revit models if paper drawings are not yet available.
